Dragonfly Farms
Dragonfly Farms was started in 2007 on a 54-acre farm in Central Virginia by Bruce and Katherine Johnson. Bruce, a Virginia native, worked for over 15 years in greenhouses and nurseries before beginning his own landscaping company. Katherine began her journey with animals at a young age as an avid horseback rider. She then attended Virginia Tech for animal science and earned her doctorate at Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003. Dr. Katherine Johnson balances her time on the farm with her successful equine and canine rehabilitation business: Veterinary Rehabilitation Services of Virginia. When Bruce is away from the farm, he's sharing regenerative practices with local farmers and communities to help improve water quality, increase wildlife habitat protection, and strengthen soil health. Bruce and Katherine's diverse knowledge, expertise, and continued perseverance is reshaping their surrounding community in extraordinary ways.
The Johnson's faithful stewardship of the land has caused their community to grow exponentially. Now Bruce, Katherine, and their two kids manage a verified regenerative landscape of over 1,200 acres where they raise cattle, sheep, and pigs.
DragonFly Farms joined Commons Provisions in 2021 and has since helped provide neighbors, communities, and families across Virginia and the mid-Atlantic with highly nutritious, ethically raised food.
